Q: Why do we sing so many songs live in
Kindermusik?

A:
We want to encourage the children to become music
makers, rather than only music listeners. By singing so
many of our songs live, and by involving parents and
little ones in singing as well, the children get a powerful
message about their own abilities to produce music
vocally.

Q: Why does Kindermusik contain so many discrete
activities?

A:
Every activity in your Kindermusik class has been
carefully crafted by the expert, award-winning team at
Kindermusik International and is based upon both new
and proven research in three key areas: music, education,
and child development. Exploration is a big theme in
Kindermusik, but we have to give kids and parents
starting points from which to jump off and explore! By
including these specially designed activities, we ensure
that the exploration is occurring in as many of the child's
developmental domains (musical, cognitive, linguistic,
physical, emotional, social) and covering as many
musical skills (rhythm, movement, pitch, etc.) as possible.

Q: Why do we put instruments away in Kindermusik?

A:
Kindermusik's rich and diverse curriculum contains a
wide variety of musical and educational goals. Some of
these goals involve instrument play, while other goals
simply cannot be met with instruments available. For
instance, although we sometimes dance
and play
instruments to the music, we also like to have special
periods set aside in class for the children just to focus on
movement, without having to concentrate on their fine
motor skills (instrument play) at the same time! During
periods such as these, we try to keep instruments out of
reach or at least out of sight.

Putting instruments away also has additional benefits for
your child: learning that clean-up time can be fun
(remember the scene in
Mary Poppins?) and learning
about sharing - an important social skill with which most
little ones need abundant practice!
